Margaret Webster

What happens when an upbeat, sociable, single, empty nester in midlife, outdoor enthusiast, critter gal, science geek, history buff, treasure hunter with an addiction to brown signs and the wanderlust, embarks on a 4 month road trip in her Chevy pickup truck, loaded with a tent, kayak, bicycle, 5 changes of clothes, her laptop, and cell phone with Verizon service, by herself, that essentially turned into a 7 year road trip?

Late in 2014 I decided to purge my home and put my house on the market to sell. I bought a 23ft class C motor home and a jeep to carry my kayak (the most expensive kayak carrier ever) and I’m making travel my full-time lifestyle. I have no plans of stopping anytime soon. People often ask me “How can you afford to travel full-time?” My response is, “I have an awesome job in IT that I can work anyplace I want in the world as long as I’m online from 8-5 EST”.  I travel mostly without an itinerary and experience a place as it comes.

[perfectpullquote align=”full” cite=”” link=”” color=”” class=”” size=””]I trust the universe and the higher powers to put me where I need to be to experience the travel and discovery process organically, [/perfectpullquote]I trust the universe and the higher powers to put me where I need to be to experience the travel and discovery process organically, mostly without researching my destinations ahead of time, so I won’t be tainted by another person’s opinion. I have discovered that there are amazing people, places and things to see everywhere and for every 10 things I see, I find 100 more I had to pass on, but make a note for something to look forward to in future trip.  My travels have taught me valuable, fun, silly, sometimes ridiculous life lessons and epiphanies that seems to be around every corner.

Encouraged by my friends and family to write a book about my travels, also titled “Lessons from the Road – US” and to start this blog. I had been posting a daily ‘I’m not dead post” on Facebook with my observations and thoughts for the day. My friends felt that Facebook was no longer the right forum for my stories. They keep reminding me, that my reach is limited to my friends list on Facebook. Hence  (Yes I used the word “hence”) the blog, I have read a few travelogue blogs and many of them are kind of dry and boring, so I will endeavor to make my posts entertaining, while being informative and hopefully be able to provide good insights to my readers/followers. I hope you enjoy this journey with me!
